A New Window Treatment Safety Standard
The Window Covering Manufacturers Association and American National Standards Institute issued the new safety benchmark for window covering products. ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 is a voluntary precaution that provides new guidelines for window treatments that “reduce the possibility of injury, including strangulation, to young children from the bead chain, cord, or any type of flexible loop.”
Beginning June 1, 2024, window coverings sold in the USA must satisfy the new safety standard. Most products will come in cordless designs. Treatments that have a continuous loop operating system must include a certain tension device that stops the loop from becoming a strangulation threat. These measures will notably lessen the number of window treatment cord injuries and deaths among little ones.
